  • Starting Point: Siliguri, West Bengal, India (for easy access to both Nepal and Bhutan).

Part 1: India to Nepal (Kathmandu)

Step 1: Reach Siliguri from Your Location in India

  • Travel Options: Buses, trains, or flights to Siliguri (Bagdogra Airport is the nearest airport if you prefer flying).
  • Siliguri serves as a key gateway to both Nepal and Bhutan.

Step 2: Siliguri to Kakarbhitta (Nepal Border)


  • Bus from Siliguri to Kakarbhitta: Approximately 2-3 hours. Kakarbhitta is the border town on the Nepal side.
  • Border Crossing: Indian nationals don’t need a visa for Nepal. Carry valid identification (passport or voter ID).


Step 3: Kakarbhitta to Kathmandu

  • Bus from Kakarbhitta to Kathmandu: 12-14 hours via long-distance buses.
  • Alternative: You can break the journey and spend a night in a town like Itahari or Dhulikhel to rest before continuing to Kathmandu.

Step 4: Exploring Kathmandu (2-3 Days)

  • Must-Visit Places:
    • Pashupatinath Temple: A significant Hindu temple.
    • Boudhanath Stupa: One of the largest stupas in Nepal.
    • Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple): Offers panoramic views of the city.
    • Durbar Square: Historical palaces and temples.

Part 2: Kathmandu to Bhutan

Step 5: Kathmandu to Siliguri

  • Return to Siliguri: Bus from Kathmandu to Kakarbhitta and then back to Siliguri.

Step 6: Siliguri to Phuentsholing (Bhutan Border)

  • Bus or Shared Jeep: Travel from Siliguri to Jaigaon (Indian border town next to Phuentsholing). The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours.
  • Border Crossing: Indian nationals can enter Bhutan at Phuentsholing without a visa, but you will need to obtain a permit for traveling beyond Phuentsholing. The permit can be obtained at the immigration office in Phuentsholing by showing your passport or voter ID.

Step 7: Phuentsholing to Thimphu

  • Bus from Phuentsholing to Thimphu: This journey takes 6-7 hours. Alternatively, you can hire a private vehicle.
  • Permit Check: Your permit will be checked at various points along
